National Canned Food Month is an annual event held in the United States during the month of February. The event was created to raise awareness about the versatility and convenience of canned foods and to encourage people to include more canned foods in their diets.
Canned foods have a long shelf life, are often cheaper than fresh or frozen options and are easy to store and prepare. In addition, many canned foods such as fishs, fruits, vegetables and beans are a good source of vitamins, minerals and fiber.
Many of the foods that are very valuable in terms of nutritional value may decrease in nutritional value until they are delivered to the end consumer. Since canned foods are packaged at the peak of harvest, the loss of nutritional value is minimized.
In order to pack foods at the peak of freshness, most canneries are located very close to harvesting areas.
Seafood canneries are usually located close to the docks. Fruit and vegetable canneries are often visible from the fields where the crops are harvested. Meats, soups and stews are canned in the plants where they are prepared.
If we look at the national canning month from the perspective of canned fish, it has several advantages. Not only is canned fish highly nutritious, but it is already cooked and ready to eat. Considering how busy everyone is these days, canned fish is a great choice for both health and convenience. Just open the can, drain the liquid and you're ready to eat!
At DOGO Fish, we are very happy to be part of this industry, supplying many canned fish producers and providing our customers with high quality, nutritious and delicious seafood.
So let's celebrate National Canned Food Month by adding more canned fish to our diets!
